City North End of Year Showcase celebrates innovation, collaboration and community impact

The City North district community came together in December for the City North End of Year Showcase, an evening celebrating the partnerships, ideas and ventures emerging through RMIT’s City North Social Innovation Precinct and RMIT Activator’s VentureHUB program.

Held in the RMIT Swanston Street Library Rocking Chair Room, the showcase brought together students, founders, staff, industry leaders and community partners to explore how collaboration across the City North district is helping drive social innovation, entrepreneurship and urban impact.

The event featured pitches from founders participating in RMIT Activator’s VentureHUB program, highlighting bold and socially driven ventures designed to create positive outcomes for both people and planet. From community-focused enterprise models to sustainability and wellbeing initiatives, the presentations reflected the growing momentum of purpose-led innovation emerging across Melbourne’s innovation ecosystem.

Guests also had the opportunity to experience projects developed through the City North Activation Challenge, an initiative bringing together students, staff and partners to co-design ideas that strengthen connection, activation and regeneration across the precinct. The projects showcased creative approaches to shaping more inclusive, connected and vibrant urban spaces, while demonstrating the value of place-based collaboration and experimentation.

The evening highlighted the growing partnership between RMIT University, the City of Melbourne and a wider network of ecosystem and community partners working together across the City North district. It also reinforced the role of the City North Social Innovation Precinct as a living lab for social innovation, collaborative urban renewal and community-led transformation.

More than a showcase, the event created space for conversation, connection and shared learning, reflecting the collaborative spirit that continues to shape the future of the district.

As Melbourne’s innovation ecosystem continues to evolve, the showcase offered a strong reminder that meaningful change happens through partnerships, creativity and communities working together toward a shared vision for the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined to celebrate the ideas, people and partnerships helping shape the future of the City North district.

We look forward to continuing this work together across the precinct, the district and beyond.
